IPL Treatment Q & A

Lumenis Stellar M22

What is IPL?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a light treatment that uses different wavelengths to correct a number of common skin concerns. During IPL treatment, an Aesthetician cleanses your skin and applies a cool gel. The gel helps the IPL device glide smoothly over your skin as it provides the healing light. You wear dark glasses to protect your eyes as the device delivers two-second pulses of light.

IPL treatments are noninvasive and safe for most skin types and tones.

What skin issues are treated with IPL?

IPL treats a wide variety of skin concerns, including:

  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Rosacea
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Vascular lesions (visible blood vessels)
  • Freckles and age spots

Talk to the staff at Samaeo Skin Spa to determine if IPL treatment is right for your aesthetic goals.

When will I see results of IPL treatment?

You’ll notice results after just one treatment, but a series of treatments completely corrects skin imperfections. Most people benefit from 3-6 treatments scheduled about one month apart.

How many sessions will I need?

Talk to the Aesthetician at Samaeo Skin Spa to determine exactly how many sessions are right for your goals. Your skin’s appearance continues to improve over time as collagen and elastin production boosts and adds structure and repair.

You’ll benefit from yearly maintenance treatments once or twice per year to maintain your look.

Do IPL treatments hurt?

During an IPL treatment, clients report feeling a mild stinging, similar to that of a rubber band snapping against the skin.

Should I schedule downtime following IPL treatment?

Following IPL treatments, your skin is temporarily quite sensitive to the effects of the sun. Be judicious and wear sunscreen for several weeks after treatment.

You don’t have to sit out of any activities, but may need to be cautious about the following:

  • Swimming in chlorinated pools
  • Very hot baths and saunas
  • Perfumes and scented soaps
  • Exfoliants and acne treatments
